Pi Network Unveils Testnet RPC Server to Fuel Smart Contract Innovation
Pi Network has taken a significant step forward in expanding its blockchain capabilities with the April 8 release of its Testnet RPC server. This infrastructure enables developers to query blockchain data in real-time and execute read-only smart contract calls without gas fees—a strategic move designed to accelerate ecosystem growth ahead of the Mainnet launch.
The RPC server serves as a critical bridge between applications and Pi's Protocol 20 blockchain, following upgrades announced on Pi Day 2026. While state-changing transactions will still incur fees, this setup aligns with industry-standard development practices seen in networks like Ethereum and Solana, prioritizing rapid iteration for decentralized applications (dApps).
This rollout coincides with Pi's transition to Protocol 21, laying the technical groundwork for future, full-featured smart contract functionality. Node operators now have the flexibility to deploy private or public RPC instances, signaling an impending surge in developer activity within Pi's previously mobile-centric ecosystem.
